Things to do in Isolation Part 3: Tips For Studying At Home

life

With everything that is going on at the moment our routine schedules have all changed. As I am a college student I have now had to get a new routine for my college working days. I have found this hard but it seems to be getting better day by day.

I thought I would share with you some of my favourite tips to help you get into a new studying routine from home.

The first tip I have is quite a simple one, with changes to my everyday routine I try and look at my day and see if their are anything I can do to set myself up for the day like before. I always have breakfast this might seem obvious but breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And can really help you to get energy for the day head and help you have a positive and a can do attitude!

Before my lessons start for the day I like to make sure I’ve got everything I need and set up ready for my days classes. From making sure I have my pens and pencils to my notebook and calculator to name a few. I also like to refill a water bottle so I can have it with me at all times whilst I’m working as it is really important that you stay hydrated throughout the day.

When I was at college I had different books for doing different topics and portfolio work in. I have really found using notebooks with dividers in helpful now that I am working from home. This is because now I can use one notebook to write everything down in one place but put notes down in the right sections together . For example one section of my notebook is my maths work and another section is about jobs in the industry.

Sometimes in the classroom you can get distracted but when your working from home it can become a little bit harder as you may start thinking about things you need to do around your house or things you want to do. Like watch something on TV or maybe call your friends.

To help me to stay on task I like to do two things:

The first thing like to do is to listen to music as I work as I find this very calming and it helps me to reduce my stress levels.

The second thing I like to do is have a pad of paper near me as I sometimes find it easier to listen in class if I can do some doodling at the same time.

My last tip is remember to take regular breaks and do something else you enjoy for a bit. That could be watching TV, reading a book or magazine, talking to friends or eating yummy treats to name a few.
